Addiction Medicine

Co-Occurring Disorders

Some patients may have co-occurring conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar, etc. PsychNS will strive to develop an individualized treatment plan that addresses these conditions, too.

Conditions Treated

Numerous substance use disorders are treated at PsychNS. The following list is not complete, but a reference to the more common conditions. It should be understood that some of these conditions may not initially be managed in the office setting, and will require referral to inpatient ‘detox’ for medically managed withdrawal. Some conditions may be of a severity where completing a higher level of care like residential treatment, partial hospitalization program, or an intensive outpatient program is paramount.

  • Alcohol Use Disorder
  • Opioid Use Disorder
  • Stimulant Use Disorder
  • Sedative, Hypnotic, or Anxiolytic Use Disorder
  • Cannabis Use Disorder
  • Tobacco Use Disorder
Is pharmacotherapy offered?

Yes, it is. There are some FDA approved medicines for Alcohol and Opioid Use Disorder. There are other medicines that are off label to their original FDA indication that may be discussed for various use disorders, too. Some use disorders lack medication options at this time.

Is onsite urine drug testing offered?

I'm already seeing a counselor who is a CDP, is that okay?

Are Vivitrol® injections prescribed?

Not in this office.

Are Suboxone® and related products prescribed?

Yes, buprenorphine products are prescribed for Opioid Use Disorder.

Does PsychNS take pregnant patients with Opioid Use Disorder?

Is an office based 'detox' possible for Alcohol Use Disorder?

Yes, some patients may have a lower severity and risk profile where office based medically managed withdrawal can be attempted. It should be noted this is usually the exception to an inpatient detox.

Can you schedule my child who is 17 and a half?

No. Only patients 18 years old or older will be scheduled.

What insurance do you accept?

Please call the office for most updated information of network status.

Addiction Medicine

Medical Specialty

Addiction Medicine is a medical sub-specialty available to many physician specialists, including Psychiatrists. It is a one year fellowship or practice pathway sub-specialty, which focuses on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of substance use disorders, and even non-substance use disorders like gambling.

Professional Certifications

There are many agencies and types of board certifcations a Physician can achieve; however, the highest standard is felt to be under the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). With PsychNS you will find certifications in Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine.
